Research and Assessment

Institution: POSITION SUMMARY: Manage the operations of the Office of Institutional
Research and Assessment, to include supervision of full-time professionals as
well as hourly assistants. The major functions of the office are to
provide both standard and customized analyses and reporting of institutional
data in support of institutional planning, support of assessment of student learning,
and to assist in the development and implementation of surveys and other
institutional research projects. This position reports to the Vice
Chancellor of Academic Affairs. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree (preferably in a field that includes substantial
graduate-level course work in research methods and data analysis; doctorate
preferred). One year management or supervisory experience. Three years
experience working in a higher education setting with advanced knowledge of
the principles, methods, and procedures associated with institutional
research. Proven experience with relational database software that includes
complex retrieval and report writing. Proficiency with spreadsheets,
graphics, word processing, and statistical software packages in a
Windows-based networked environment. Experienced in assessing student
learning and institutional effectiveness, especially as they relate to
accreditation requirements. Ability to work effectively with administrators,
faculty, and staff to develop analyses in support of campus planning
activities. Ability to communicate effectively in a culturally and ethnically
diverse community. Ability to prioritize multiple demands, demonstrated
problem solving skills, and proven orientation toward quality service. Sedentary
work requirement: sitting for extended periods. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage Office of Institutional Research and Assessment,
including setting annual goals and plans, personnel functions, budget
management, and finding resources necessary for staff to accomplish assigned
tasks. Perform accurate, timely, and thorough analyses of institutional data
to support key management decisions at the campus level. Make formal
presentations to campus community by translating statistical reports to the
understanding of a novice. Collaborate with other data providers on campus
and within the university and oversee campus data reporting with respect to
IU system requirements and external entities, especially accreditation
agencies. Serve as a member of the Enrollment Management team and provide
support for various enrollment management functions including enrollment
projections and retention analyses. Work with academic administrators,
faculty, and staff to support development and implementation of plans for
assessment of student learning at the academic and co-curricular program
level. Propose research projects and collaborate with others to answer
questions relevant to IUS. Serve as a campus Data Steward to ensure
integrity, security, and privacy of records and assist in the development of
data warehouse and end-user interfaces. Perform other related duties
